Barbara Crowder

"In the Middle of No Place"

"Ojai Meadow"

Born in Ohio, Barbara moved to the West Coast in 1983. She has studied photography, watercolors, acrylics and oils but pastels soon found her. Living in Ojai for the past 20 years, she has been fortunate enough to study with many talented and supportive local artists including Tom Hardcastle, Jannene Behl, Bert Collins and has enjoyed a workshop in Ojai with Teri Ford.

As an avid traveler, Barbara is inspired by the California landscape and it is reflective in her work.  Her paintings can be found in private collections across the United States.

Art for Barbara is in the experience. No matter where the location, the best part is taking it all in to create something beautiful.  Pastels are Barbara's favorite vehicle.  They allow her to create interesting moments in time and space. Painting from her photographs or en plein air ensures a unique experience for the viewer.

An award winning artist, Barbara has been a member of the Made In Ojai artist co-op since 2010 and in 2016 she joined the Pastel Society of the Gold Coast. Art shows she has been a participant in include the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, the Ventura County Fair - Professional Division, Ojai Center for the Arts and Buenaventura Art Association.

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from the University of LaVerne.
