Linda Nelson is a fine artist specializing in landscape and portraiture using pastels, oils, watercolor and mixed media. She earned a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA.
Her illustrations have been published in professional scientific journals, research reports and education materials.
In 2001, Linda began a self-directed study of "plein air" oil painting in Adult Education classes and workshops, learning landscape, seascape, figure and portrait. Her teachers include Ray Strong, Larry and John Iwerks, Michael Drury, Tom Henderson in Landscape; Libby Smith, Duane Unkefer and Rick Stich for Figure and Portraiture.
In 2008, she began studying in pastel with Ojai artist Bert Collins. Bert's generous mentorship has provided inspiration and steadfast encouragement. Jeremy Lipking has influenced her work in portraiture.
Her teaching career includes advanced drawing, 3D perspective, comparative animal anatomy; color mixing and painting in Pastels, Watercolor, Oils; costume design and technical theatre with Music and Arts Conservatory. She enjoys mentoring younger and older artists, alike.
Linda is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of the Gold Coast, a member of the California Art Club, Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment and the Santa Barbara Art Association. She's a past Director of Education and co-founder of the SBAA Student Art Fund, a 501(c) 3.
Her participation in PSGC, SCAPE & SBAA shows have helped benefit SB Botanical Gardens, UC Nature Reserve at Santa Cruz Island, Domestic Violence Solutions, the SB Natural History Museum and Wildling Museums.
