About us

Our Beginnings

The Pastel Society of the Gold Coast was
founded in 2009 by Pamela Solakian (1958-2010) –
an accomplished artist who studied pastels under Ojai artist Bert Collins.
It was in Bert's first Saturday pastel class that she and fellow students were inspired to form a pastel society. In fact, many of those students became founding members of PSGC and continue to meet on the First Saturday in Ojai.

From Pamela's legacy, the inception of a budding
pastel artist group has grown into a pastel society of
fine caliber, with artists from Santa Barbara, Ventura
and Los Angeles Counties.  We continue to foster a supportive and dynamic environment for pastel artists,

and look forward to sharing our art and giving back to

our community.

Our Mission Statement

The Pastel Society of the Gold Coast is a non-profit organization for the specific purpose to provide public exhibitions for its members, to educate the community through collaboration with environmental and other non-profit organizations; and to promote the arts in general.

We are a membership of approximately thirty Southern California artists who utilize the dynamic and diverse application of soft pastels to express the nature and beauty of our Gold Coast region.
