Pamela Salem

I grew up in Ventura, California. I have always enjoyed art and enrolled in my first oil painting class at the age of 16. After mastering the basic techniques of value and contrast, my interest expanded to pastels and watercolors.
I love painting animals large and small. I enjoy painting them in pastel because I feel like I am petting them… looking into their eyes as I brush their fur with my fingertips, imagining their lives and their secret thoughts...  I also enjoy painting seascapes and landscapes, visiting places I have enjoyed or look forward to visiting.

My first year as a professional I was awarded fourth place in Pastels at the Ventura County Fair, which was very encouraging. In 2012 I was honored to receive the prestigious Ada Callahan Award, both humbling and gratifying!   I have received honors in the Santa Paula Annual Art Exhibit and from the Harbor Village Gallery.   My first ‘solo show’ was entitled, “Jungle in Your Living Room”, presented through the Buenaventura Art Association.

One of the really 'fun' aspects of my involvement with art has been the opportunity to present 'demo' sessions at various locations around the county.  I get to show what I can do, explain various techniques, methods and materials, and hear what people have to say about what they like to see in art.  It serves as a wonderful education for me, and hopefully, for the community as well.
I am a member of the Buenaventura Art Association, Santa Paula Art, Camarillo Art Center and the Pastel Society of the Gold Coast.
