Barbara Crowder

       Barbara Crowder

Born in Ohio, Barbara moved to the West Coast in 1983.  She has studied photography, watercolors, acrylics and oils but pastels soon found her.  Living in Ojai for the past 25 years she has been fortunate enough to study with many talented artists including Tom Hardcastle, Jannene Behl and Bert Collins.
As an avid traveler, Barbara is inspired by the California landscape and it is reflective in her work.  Her paintings can be found in private collections across the United States.
Barbara was juried into the Pastel Society of the Gold Coast and has been an active member since 2016.  In 2017 she was juried into the Ventura County Pastel Artists and has served as President since 2019.
Showing her work in local exhibits has been one of Barbara’s favorite activities.  You can find her work in shows at the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, the Ventura County Fair - Professional Division and the Ojai Center for the Arts.  She also shows at the annual exhibits of PSGC and VCPA.
Barbara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from the University of LaVerne.
Artist Statement:  Art for me is in the experience.  No matter where the scene, the best part is taking it all in to create something beautiful.  Pastels allow me to create interesting moments in time and space.  Painting from my photographs or en plein aire ensures a unique experience for the viewer.
